About the Project:

City Connections is a new Public Art Project in Madison strengthens the community through connections. Madison Public Art Project is hosting audio pop-up's in Madison at various locations in the upcoming months. We are partnering with Union Cab Cooperative and inviting the community to drive the design direction. Interested participants can sign up, free of charge, for these pop ups on Eventbrite to come and record short stories and audio clips with our on-site audio engineer. The project theme is intended to create conversation and connection. All are invited from across the city to come and be a part of this mural project!

Zaremba, a Madison-based painter, will find her inspiration in these community pop-ups sessions to shape her design. Participants will reflect on the theme of connection and contribute personal stories, memories, and input that will directly shape the final mural work.. The recorded audio clips will complement the mural which further connects our city residents. Each individual audio recording will add an additional layer of meaning and art interaction. Zaremba is known for omitting specific figurative features and working in a vibrant color palette to create a diverse and inclusive mural expression. The experiences and relationships shared by cab drivers, riders, and community members will be reflected in the art to include a wide range of human experiences and universal sense of connection. The figures depicted in the mural will be based off the audio clips and are meant to evoke shared experiences and create opportunities for viewers to find moments they relate to personally.

The exhibition is free to view 365 days/ year, accessible from the street, and will be a semi-permanent installation located at Union Cab Cooperative on the North Side of Madison. About the Artist:

Amy Zaremba "was born and raised in Wisconsin and grew up exploring the lakes and forests of the Northwoods. She now calls Madison home, where she lives with her husband, Steve, their daughter, Josie, and dog, Lola. Amy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2005), as well as a J.D. from DePaul College of Law (2009). She is the owner and creative force behind Zaremba Art, LLC, where she specializes in murals, acrylic painting, and custom signage. Her murals vary widely in theme and technique but share a common intention: to brighten public spaces, spark reflection, and foster a sense of belonging. Some invite collective storytelling and celebrate shared histories, while others offer simple moments of joy and connection."

Project Audio Introduction:

Hear from our Mural Project Director!
Volume Icon.png

Listen to some of the audio clips that inspired this beautiful mural design! â€‹

MPAP invited all to participate from across the city of Madison. We asked people to share- What does connection mean to you?

Participants met over the past months as various library locations to describe what connection means to them...in their own voice....sharing their own family traditions... memories... thoughts and stories.... then they send in coordinating photos to share with the artist. It's not too late. You can still join in!

Listen below to Madisonian's perspectives, personal narratives, and shared memories & stories. City Connections Public Art project supports intergenerational listening, understanding, learning, and strengthens community connections. Join us and get involved by sharing a brief audio clip and then ask your friends and family to share as well. The more submissions we have the more beautiful and meaningful the project & mural will be filled and inspired by your audio stories & photos. The artist is now working on the expanded mural for the online archive which may be inspired by your contribution.  â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
